Why did we change our name? There were so many reasons not to make the change:
It has been always been the GERC
It is familiar to our community, students, contractors. They might be confused if we change the name
The cost of making the change (stationary, signs, business cards etc.)
But, our new Director, Dr John Rogacki felt that the change from UFL GERC to UFL REEF gave a launching pad for reinvention and an opportunity to reach our potential, and the new name (and acronym) highlight both the research and educational aspects of our mission while capturing the appeal of our geographic location.
Along with the name change came a new mission and vision.
REEF Mission:
To lead technology advancement
for national security and
defense through excellence in applied research and engineering
education.
REEF Vision:
To provide world class graduate
research and engineering
education as an extension of the University of Florida College
of
Engineering, supporting government defense and national security
partners in western Florida through flexible and responsive
graduate and
professional education and research programs.
